A striking glazed ceramic figure from the Ming Dynasty, standing an impressive 49 cm high. The figure depicts a dignitary or attendant dressed in a long dark robe, wearing a tall headdress and carrying a bundle of rounded loaves or offerings carefully held against the chest. The sculpture is finished in the characteristic fahua-type palette, with deep black, turquoise-blue and cream glazes creating a strong visual contrast. The facial features, costume, belt and attributes are individually modelled, while the tall architectural-style pedestal gives the figure an imposing vertical presence. The head is removable, an original construction feature that also provides an interesting insight into the way these large glazed figures were assembled and fired. Preserved with visible age-related wear, glaze losses and surface patina consistent with an antique ceramic object, the piece retains considerable decorative presence from every angle. Provenance: Danish private collection. The figure is sold with a 100% guarantee of authenticity and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
